Hello 7th Grade Families,

After the 7th graders completed their Unit 2 Vocabulary and Spelling test, they were given the opportunity to work on their VFW essay. In total they probably had about 30-35 minutes to work on their assignment. I also gave them time during the Homeroom period to work on this as well.

In class we talked about a possible metaphor that was used in Because of Winn-Dixie. 

" 'The storm won't last long, " the preacher told me. "And when it's over, the real Winn-Dixie will come back.' " pg. 76 We said that the preacher may have actually been talking about himself or his situation when he mentions the storm. Another topic was brought up by a 7th grader: "Why does Opal refer to her mom as mama but her dad as preacher when her dad is the one who is there for her? The discussion that followed was excellent.

Hello 7th Grade Families,

Today's class was focused around grammar. We tried moving onto subject/object pronouns, but learned that we need a refresher in direct objects and subject complements to better understand WHY a pronoun is either subject or object. We will be looking at both on Thursday.

Hello 7th Grade Families,

Today we read the excerpt that goes along with the Unit 2 Vocabulary words and had an excellent discussion regarding food, health, and author's purpose. We decided that the author of the excerpt's purpose was to inform the editor. We also worked on the first 5 words and how to remember them. 
    After we read we completed a grammar exercise demonstrating knowledge of identifying/classifying pronouns and their antecedents. Lastly, we read more from Because of Winn-Dixie. We met a few new characters that we will discuss tomorrow.
