Hello 7th Grade Families,
Today, we reviewed the next 5 words in Sadlier Unit 1. Again, the 7th graders did an excellent job coming up with ways to remember each word! We also did a review on yesterday's 5 words. I am hoping that this will help the 7th grade remember all 20 words!

Afterwards, we moved onto Literature and read more from Because of Winn-Dixie, and we added to our Elements of the Story anchor chart. We added the characters: India Opal Buloni, Winn-Dixie, and the Preacher. We also talked about the term catalyst. We discussed that the catalyst in a story is a "character" who motives or moves the plot along. It was determined that the catalyst, in this story, is Winn-Dixie hence the title Because of WInn-DIxie. We know that the title is insinuating that something happens because of Winn-Dixie. From what we read today, we learned that Winn-Dixie gave Opal the courage to ask the Preacher to tell her 10 things about her mother.

We also talked about main, supportive, and static characters. We discussed that, so far, the main characters are Opal, Winn-Dixie, and the Preacher. We also discussed that characters like the store manager aren't main or supportive characters, instead they are there for a reason to help the plot of the story.
